Scotchgard is a product developed by 3M that is used on carpet, upholstery and fabric as a stain repellent and water repellent. It works by creating an invisible coating to the carpet fibers or fabric, making it harder for dirt and soil to become attached. It also helps protect from staining. Most carpet and upholstery come with a layer of protection from the mill where they were manufactured, however over time this coating wears off and makes your carpet more susceptible to soiling and stains. This coating can be re-applied with Scotchgard to help build back up that barrier of protection that came with you carpet when it was new. Keep reading to find out the benefits of Scotchgard.
Protects Your Carpet and Upholstery
Scotchgard is great for protecting against stains, but it can also protect your carpet fibers and upholstered furniture from wear. The protective seal is applied to the surface of your carpet or furniture and creates a barrier that protects from premature wear, so it can extend the life of your carpet.
Prolongs that ‘Just Cleaned’ Look
One reason to have Scotchgard applied right after a professional cleaning is to preserve that “just cleaned” look that everyone loves right after cleaning. No one wants to pay the cost of a professional cleaning just to have it dirty again in a month or so. Having your carpet or furniture Scotchgarded will give you peace of mind knowing that your carpets are not only clean but protected.
Makes Cleaning More Effective
The way Scotchgard works is it that it creates a barrier that make it much more difficult for dirt and spills to attach deep into the fibers. It also keeps spills sitting on the surface, so it is easier to clean up a spill before it soaks in. With the added protection of keeping dirt and spills on the surface, cleaning is much more effective and easier.
Saves Money in the Long Run
Regular professional cleaning paired with the re-application of Scotchgard carpet protector will insure that your flooring and upholstery will not only look great but will maximize the usable life of all textiles. Keeping your textiles protected saves you money on premature replacement.
Blue Diamond Scotchgard Warranty
Scotchgard applied by Blue Diamond Carpet Cleaners includes a 12 month warranty

Do your carpets look like the examples pictured above? My customers in State College, Pa are beginning to notice the carpet in the homes starting to ripple and wrinkle. If this is happening in your home you may find yourself asking "What Causes Carpet Ripples to Occur?", "Are Carpet Wrinkles Bad?" and "Does rippled carpet have to be replaced?" These are good and fair questions to ask and I would like to address each of them here.
What Causes Carpet Ripples to Occur?
While there are several reasons that carpet may begin to wrinkle (such as the humidity changing with the seaosns or the dragging of heavy furniture across the floor) there is one underlying root cause. That cause is improper carpet installation. Unfortunately, there are currently no standards or certifications required to perform carpet installations. As a consequence, many carpet retailers and home builders will subcontract the carpet install to whomever will do it for the lowest price. These subcontractors, in an effort to make up for their low price, may rush their work to complete as many contracts as possible. The problem for the customer is that evidence of poorly installed carpet may not be seen for month or even years later. Loose carpet in many cases will look just the same as properly stretched carpet for a period of several months or years until ripples and wrinkles begin to appear.
Are Carpet Wrinkles Bad?
At First, carpet wrinkles may seem like no big deal. However over time, as they get larger, not only will they develop into eyesores and trip hazards but they will also shorten the usable life span of your carpet. The cost of purchasing carpet for your home, or rental properties, can easily stretch into the thousands of dollars. Improperly stretched carpet will wear out much faster than it should robbing your investment of years of usable life essentially flushing money right down the drain.
